My name is SilkyC and I am a Canadian streamer, mother of 2, wife, lover of the gym, fan of kpop, soca, anime and basically all things nerdy. I have been a gamer since my parents had an Atari PC (yes I am dating myself here lol) and I will be a gamer until the day I die

Saturday - 7:00-11:00am
Sunday - 7:00-11:00am

BGGC: Describe your favorite games that you grew up playing!
SilkyC: Oh man, there are so many great games but ones that come to mind from when I was much younger include;
Mystical Ninja
GoldenEye 007
Mario Kart 64
Donkey Kong 64
Mega Man X (on Super Nintendo)
Final Fantasy VII
BGGC: What does gaming mean to you and what is its significance in your life as a Black Woman or Woman of Color?
SilkyC: Gaming means so much to me. As someone who has endured a long distance relationship (Myself in Canada, my now husband in Barbados [at the time]), gaming became our date nights. We would play online games such as Final Fantasy XI online together. Gaming is such an incredible platform and although as many of us know, it can be a very male dominated and toxic industry, I have met some of the most amazing women through gaming and I do not know where I would be without them.
Being a black woman it is so important to have playable, strong black female characters in games I cannot stress how much representation matters. As a mother with a 6 year old daughter I want her to be able to see herself in these games, and I want to be able to see myself in various characters in games as well. Seeing more representation in games, and the industry as well as those that play games is insanely necessary to allow us to shine and show that yes we matter, and yes love games too!
BGGC: What does motherhood mean to you and how do you balance being a mom with being a gamer? Are your children gamers too? If so, do you play together? How does this influence your relationship with each other? Are there games that you loved as a kid (or currently) that you want to pass on to your children and share with them?
SilkyC: We all hear other parents say how much parenthood changes your life, and I couldn't agree more. The stress, the frustrations, the innocent moments that are shared with your kids. It is all, always worth every moment. I do not know where I would be without my little ones! Being a gamer, and a mother can be very hard. I do my best not to game when my kids are awake as I want to spend time with them as they are still young and growing up way too quickly for my liking! However I am fortunate enough that my kids have become gamers too so I can take some time to teach them how to play games safely and have fun with them as well.
There is no way my kids could NOT become gamers when they have mother AND father that are gamers! They love the play games, they are BIG fans of all of the Lego games. The first one that really got them into gaming was the Lego Jurassic Park, and its been Lego game after lego game since then! Seeing the kids learn how to beat a boss, level, or puzzle is such a great feeling. Being able to share that moment with them to see them so happy to have suceeded in something they were struggling with is such a 'proud gamer momma' moment!
I want to pass down ALL THE FINAL FANTASY GAMES! Hahaha! Anyone that knows me knows how much I love the Final Fantasy franchise and I cannot wait for them to be old enough to play and for us to play them together!
BGGC: Lastly, is there anything else that you would like to include about yourself that isn't mentioned in the prompts listed above?
SilkyC: If anyone ever wants to check out my channel, my community is a safe place for everyone! Please feel free to pop on by :)
