BGGC: Tell us your stream schedule if you have one/stream! As well as information about the games you stream and the focus of your channel and what systems you play on (Console/PC, etc.)
Momo: I'm currently on a moving hiatus (just moved across country!) so I won't be streaming for a few more weeks, unfortunately, but my normal schedule is 10:30amSu/Mon/Wed/Sa on my own channel, and Tuesdays at 9:00pm on the GOGcom Twitch channel. I just jumped two timezones forward, but it'll probably remain based in Mountain Time. As a variety streamer, I definitely embrace a ton of different games. My favorites to play on stream are Nintendo games, JRPGs, MMOs, puzzles, and indies. I'm primarily a PC and 3DS streamer, but I own all consoles.
BGGC: Describe your favorite games that you grew up playing!
Momo: Some of my favorite games growing up were those of the JRPG genre like Final Fantasy games, and Star Ocean. I'm also an avid Simmer and started with SimTower before later developing an addiction to the Sims, haha. Outside of those, I ADORE rhythm games, so PaRappa and Um Jammer Lammy were my babies. I still own them, actually.
BGGC: What does gaming mean to you and what is its significance in your life as a Black Woman or Woman of Color?
Momo: My mother was the one who introduced me to gaming. We were having a laugh about it the other day, oddly enough. She said she never imagined that the hobby she introduced to broaden my interests would have taken such a huge place in my life. She's proud of how I've turned my love of games into something I can share with so many people, especially other little Black girls. Gaming to me means turning dreams into reality. It's that little slice of something amazing that allows you to dare to be a superhero, or a builder of castles, a magical girl, whatever your fancy. I love that this side of gaming exists in a world I'm used to hearing what I cannot be. I can be whatever I want in my games.
BGGC: What does motherhood mean to you and how do you balance being a mom with being a gamer? Are your children gamers too? If so, do you play together? How does this influence your relationship with each other? Are there games that you loved as a kid (or currently) that you want to pass on to your children and share with them?
Momo: Oh man, motherhood. Haha It's a ride. As cliche as it sounds, it's literally molding the future. What I do, and how I choose to raise my kids will ultimately decide the path they take and the mark they leave on the world. I take this very seriously, and honestly I'm always worried as to whether I'm doing right by them.
Balancing my gaming, streaming life, and parenting is a constant test in juggling my ability to dole out time wisely, but I enjoy it! The kids are pretty well known within my community (I think they like them more than they do me! Haha), and they are ALL gamers in their own right. Yes, even the three year old. The teen loves to battle it out with me on Just Dance (she's better), and the babies love playing Mario Kart and Smash Bros.
As to how this influences how we interact with one another, I can say we're pretty close knit in general. My kids know mommy isn't too much of a grown up to sit down and have fun with them. It's quality time for us.
There aren't many games I've passed down to my kids, but I did introduce my teen to Kingdom Hearts and she's hooked. I had to go out and get all of the PS3 versions for her since she loved the first one so much.
